Science of Cooking – Learning STEM subjects through cooking for persons with ID

About the project

Project uses the interactivity and observations possibilities of cooking to support adults with intellectual disability in learning more about STEM topics. Through a kinesthetic and learn-by-doing approach cooking aids teaching and learning about subjects like math, measuring, science, and other STEM areas.

Objectives

  • To encourage learning STEM subjects among adult persons with ID through cooking.
  • Making learning this subjects more appealing and fun.
  • Increase the knowledge about STEM subjects.
  • Increase independence of persons with ID.

Activities

  • Development of »STEM learning through cooking« innovative approach for persons with ID.
  • Production of STEM learning cookbook – Toolkit.
  • Development of Game-based learning activity.
  • All project results available in 5 European languages.
  • Quality and dissemination of project results.

Results

  • An innovative approach to STEM learning through cooking for people with intellectual disabilities and tools for its implementation.
  • A user-friendly learning cookbook.
  • A game-based activity to increase learner motivation and interaction.

Impact

  • Enhanced expert knowledge and skills of staff from partner organizations on the topic of developing and implementing learning activities in the field of STEM for vulnerable target groups of learners, specifically persons with ID.
  • Improved skills and knowledge in the field of teaching STEM related subjects through cooking for persons with ID.
  • Raised educational offer of learning activities for persons with ID.
  • Increased awareness about importance of equal learning opportunities for all target groups of learners and importance to follow current educational needs.
  • Enhanced networking and/or established new networks on local, national and EU level.
  • Greater inclusion of šersons with ID in the society.
  • Possibility to adapt the project results for other target groups of learners and consequently increased educational offer.
