Inclusive Digital Mobility fostering social cohesion in the Alpine Space (IncluDiMi)

Description

Digitalisation trends in local mobility networks are a crucial factor to deliver more customised, flexible services designed around the needs of the users (e.g. shared mobility, demand responsive transit, multimodal integration, etc). While the benefits of digitalisation can be easily exploited by tech-ready user groups, and are mostly deployed in richer and densely populated areas, for a wide range of vulnerable users (e.g. citizens with disabilities, elderly, marginalised citizens) this process can exacerbate social exclusion.

IncluDiMi’s challenge is to reduce digital divide in mobility, by testing tech-based and social innovation approaches for non-digital, marginalised and vulnerable groups of citizens targeted in 9 Alpine Space territories, to increase their capacities in accessing mobility services and exploiting digital functionalities (e.g. planning multimodal journeys, requesting and booking services, ticketing and payments, real time information, etc).

Goals

IncluDiMi aims at increasing user friendliness of digital based sustainable mobility services, by testing solutions to reduce the digital divide and the risk of exclusion of non-digital, marginalised and vulnerable groups. The project will test and consolidate a mix of technological and social innovation approaches mitigating the impact of the digitalisation trends in mobility, bridging the digital divide for specific target groups and increasing their accessibility options, in 9 Alpine areas.

Activities

IncluDiMi will deliver a new approach to embed inclusiveness in the mobility digitalisation process, by developing participative formats and training modules to engage citizens in actions to reduce digital divide in mobility. The project will develop two solutions:

  1. a) an inclusive digital mobility model for Alpine regions, consolidating the results of testing a set of innovative tools bridging the digital divide in mobility, and
  2. b) a toolbox for inclusive digital mobility design, integrating learning materials and approaches jointly developed around inclusive mobility challenges.

Results

  • Testing digital tools enhancing inclusiveness
  • Testing training concepts for inclusive digital mobility design
  • Inclusive digital mobility model for Alpine regions, a set of innovative tools bridging digital divide in mobility
  • Toolbox for inclusive digital mobility design, training concepts accompanying the digitalisation of mobility services for all
  • Action plans for the up take and upscaling of IncluDiMi solutions
  • IncluDiMi guidelines on new approaches to inclusiveness in the mobility digitalisation process
  • E-course for public administrations, planners, mobility operators, education and training institutions, based on joint solutions, action plans and guidelines

Impact

IncluDiMi will contribute to bridging the digital divide in mobility and improving access to sustainable transport services for all, particularly older people, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. By developing and testing inclusive digital solutions, innovative training approaches, and actively engaging users, the project will strengthen digital skills, independence, and opportunities for social participation. In the long term, project results will contribute to more inclusive mobility systems, stronger social cohesion, and the transfer of good practices across Alpine regions.
